About us

Our History

Love Your Magic (LYM) is a grassroots organization committed to the healthy development of Black and Brown girls.

Founded in 2017 by a group of Black and Brown women educators in Boston, Massachusetts, Love Your Magic began as a conference designed to respond to and disrupt the disproportionate amount of Black and Brown girls that were being “pushed out” of schools.

Our Approach

Self-advocacy, self-love, and sisterhood can impact Black and Brown girls’ educational pursuits and experiences.

Our work equips the girls with the tools to advocate for themselves and their communities. We provide a space for girls to tell their stories, develop their self-esteem, and celebrate each other.

Our Commitment

As a commitment to embracing and acknowledging the varying identity and experiences of all Black and Brown girls, including trans girls, we emphasize the importance of the term “gxrls’’ as an inclusive one.

Love Your Magic’s Youth Development Model

Self-Advocacy

Love Your Magic encourage gxrls to see each other not as competitors, but as sisters, through an emphasis on sisterhood.

Self-Advocacy

Too often our girls internalize values that tell them to be silent. As their village, it is our responsibility to help them develop the skills they need to use their voice.

Self-Love

Self-love is essential for our gxrls. As their village, we can and should speak love into them and affirm them until they know self-love for themselves.

Sisterhood

Love Your Magic encourage gxrls to see each other not as competitors, but as sisters, through an emphasis on sisterhood.

“Being at the Love Your Magic Conference filled me with joy. I really liked the feeling of sisterhood. I learned that self love is important and it should always come first.”

— Jelissa, Parent

My daughter was inspired by the speakers and has learned that when she identifies a need in her community she can fill it. I would recommend the Love Your Magic Conference to anyone interested in giving power to their daughter’s voice.”

— Charleah, Parent

"Through the Love Your Magic Conference, Love Your Magic is filling a void by creating a space where young girls of color can feel free to be themselves and where values of self worth, advocacy and sisterhood are being fostered."

Angelina, Age 14

“My favorite part about the Love Your Magic Book Club was being able to relate to the other girls. It was really cool to hear them say stuff that I totally agree with. It was encouraging to hear that other Black teens go through the same things as me.”
